Acrylic Tennis, Pickleball & Basketball Court Resurfacing in Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh is a court city. Between its private clubs, school facilities, municipal parks and backyard courts from Fox Chapel to Mount Lebanon, the Pittsburgh area has thousands of tennis, pickleball and basketball courts — and every one of them fights the same enemy: a western Pennsylvania winter that freezes, thaws and freezes again dozens of times a season.

If your Pittsburgh court has faded color, spreading cracks or a slick, tired playing surface, acrylic resurfacing is the answer. Fast Times Tennis has been resurfacing and building acrylic sport courts since 1987 — more than 2,400 courts across Western PA, Western NY, Eastern OH, Northern MD and West Virginia — and the Pittsburgh metro is one of our busiest service areas.

Why Pittsburgh Courts Need Acrylic Done Right

We build and resurface acrylic hard courts — we don't build or service clay or grass courts. In this climate, acrylic is the outdoor surface we put our name on:

  • It protects the base. Layered acrylic coatings keep water out of the asphalt. Once water gets in, Pittsburgh's freeze-thaw cycles widen cracks aggressively — that's when a resurfacing becomes a rebuild.
  • It plays like the pros. We use Laykold, the same acrylic system underfoot at the US Open, with sand-texturized color coats tuned for grip and pace.
  • It lasts. UV-stable color holds up through hot summer sun and hard western PA winters.

Signs Your Court Needs Resurfacing

  • The ball plays noticeably faster and lower than it used to — the texture is worn
  • Fine cracks spreading from baselines, sidelines or net posts
  • Coating that peels, flakes or bubbles, especially after winter
  • Birdbaths — standing water an hour after rain
  • Faded, chalky color that makes the whole facility look tired

If two or more apply, it's time for a professional look. We give free on-site assessments across the Pittsburgh area and will tell you honestly whether you need a recoat, crack repair or something more.

Our Resurfacing Process

  • Inspection and crack assessment. We map every crack, low spot and drainage issue before quoting.
  • Power wash and prep. The surface is cleaned and fully dried — moisture under acrylic is the top cause of coating failure.
  • Certified crack repair. As a certified RiteWay Crack Repair and Armor Crack installer, we treat structural cracks with systems backed by a no-return warranty when applied to ASBA specifications.
  • Patching and leveling. Birdbaths are filled with patch binder and flood-tested until water sheets off.
  • Laykold color system. Acrylic resurfacer, then two or more texturized color coats — US Open Blue with a US Open Green perimeter is the most requested combination.
  • Precision striping. USTA tennis, USAPA pickleball and regulation basketball layouts.

Recent Pittsburgh-Area Work

We recently completed a private tennis court resurfacing in Fox Chapel — a full Laykold resurface in US Open Blue and Green with crisp new lines that turned a weathered backyard court into a professional-quality playing surface. It's the same process and materials we bring to clubs, schools and municipal facilities across the region.

Tennis, Pickleball or Basketball — One System

The Laykold and Acrytech systems serve all three sports — Laykold is the surface of the US Open, and Acrytech is the Official Surface of the Professional Pickleball Association. Many Pittsburgh-area clients re-stripe an existing tennis court with pickleball overlays, convert underused tennis courts into dedicated pickleball courts with permanent net posts, or add basketball keys and three-point arcs to multi-sport layouts. We handle the entire project — surfacing, striping, posts and accessories. For players who want a softer step, we also install cushioned tennis and pickleball courts with a 4mm, 6mm or 8mm rubber cushion under the color coats.

Timing a Pittsburgh Resurfacing Project

Acrylic coatings cure in warm, dry weather, so our season runs April through October. Most single courts take three to five working days; larger multi-court facilities run one to two weeks. If you're planning around a league season, camp or tournament, book six to eight weeks ahead — our spring calendar fills early.
