Tennis Court Resurfacing & Construction

From tired, cracked backyard courts to six-court school complexes — we resurface, repair and build tennis courts that play true for years.

Tennis courts are our roots. Fast Times Tennis has been resurfacing and building acrylic tennis courts since 1987, and we have finished more than 2,400 courts across Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. We surface acrylic courts with Laykold and Acrytech systems — Laykold is the surface of the US Open and the Miami Open — and stripe them to USTA dimensions.

Whether your court needs a fresh set of color coats, serious crack and base repair, or a brand-new build from bare ground, one crew handles the whole job start to finish.

When should a tennis court be resurfaced?

Most courts need new color coats every 3–8 years depending on how hard they are played: club courts every 3–5 years, school and municipal courts every 4–6, and residential courts every 5–8. Watch for a surface that plays faster than it used to (the sand texture has worn away), color that is faded or flaking, standing water, and cracks that are widening.

Resurfacing on schedule protects the asphalt underneath. Once water gets into the base through open cracks, freeze-thaw cycles widen them fast — and that is when a resurfacing job turns into a rebuild. With a good base and timely resurfacing, a tennis court can last upwards of 30 years. Cracks that keep coming back get our certified RiteWay and Armor Crack repair, installed to ASBA specifications. Built for how you play

Our acrylic systems hold sand in the color coats for the texture and grip tennis needs. We can also add pickleball lines in a contrasting color so one court serves both sports. Want more give underfoot? A cushioned tennis court adds a 4mm, 6mm or 8mm rubber cushion under the color coats — easier on joints, and cracks that form in the base below don’t show through.

Building a new tennis court

A regulation tennis court measures 60′ × 120′ including runouts, ideally oriented north-south so neither player faces the sun. It needs a near-perfect plane — about 1% slope for drainage — so a new build starts with excavation and grading, a compacted stone sub-base and asphalt paving, followed by a proper cure before any coating goes down.

Then come acrylic resurfacer coats, texturized color coats in your colors, regulation lines, net posts and any fencing or lighting — one crew, start to finish. Our tennis court construction planning guide walks through goals, site assessment and permits.

Common Questions

Most residential courts are finished in 3–5 working days; multi-court facilities typically take 1–2 weeks. Your court is playable 24–48 hours after the final lines go down.

On new asphalt we apply a minimum of two coats of acrylic resurfacer plus two coats of texturized color.

Yes. We can stripe pickleball lines over a tennis court in a contrasting color, or convert one tennis court into as many as four dedicated pickleball courts.
